Whether you're a seasoned hiker, or a walking newbie, High Peak Club has something for you! We host walks appropriate for all abilities, from an overnight hike of 42 miles around Derwent Watershed to a leisurely afternoon practicing some navigation techniques.
For beginners, there will be regular navigation sessions where you can learn to read a map and practice micro and night navigation techniques; we'll have you seasoned in no time.
If you're already familiar with hill walking and want a bit of a challenge, the High Peak Club hosts some regular long-distance walks. They can be anything from 20-40 miles with the added challenge of walking through the night. The terrain ranges from long-distance footpaths to some of the worst bog you could ever find in the UK. You'll have to navigate in snow, rain, fog and, the rarest of all weather conditions in the Peak District, sunshine!
We also have loads of trips away to the greatest locations for walking. We head to Snowdon National Park, the Cairngorms and the Lake District, so whatever your abilities, please do get involved!
No navigational experience or anything like that is required, just turn up on the day with some boots, waterproofs/layers, your lunch and money for the bus/pints. The details of the walk, length, location etc. are usually sent out by email on the Monday or Tuesday before the weekend. If you are interested in improving your navigation skills then the walk leader will be more than happy to help out, you don't need to bring a map or compass.
